Dog Training Group Classes

Looking to build a better relationship with your dog? Mark is happy to be partnering with Victoria Falls Ranch to conduct this very informative and friendly 6-week group training program.  Mark, who has over 44 years professional experience, and is highly regarded and respected internationally.

What you will learn during this class

How to teach your dog to:

  • behave and be calm and responsive to you around other dogs & people
  • walk by your side and calm free walking in close proximity of other dogs and people
  • sit, down/drop, stay and come, and to respond around distractions
  • go to place/bed and remain there until released

Reactive Dog

This 6-week class is ideal for dogs with reactivity issues. If your dog tends to react toward other dogs or people and you’d like to focus on helping them stay calm for more peaceful walks, there’s no need to go through all the listed commands. During this group class, Mark will help you understand why your dog reacts the way they do, guide you through the process of settling your dog around other dogs and people, and teach you the skills to carry this progress into your everyday walks.

Behaviour issues

Mark will also offer guidance on common behavioural issues such as: on-lead reactivity, aggression, anxiety, fears, insecurity, over-excitement, anti-social behaviour and any other behavioural issues that are concerning you, and help you work through any issues.

Mark also discusses and demonstrates learning theory and different methodologies, and also basic dog behaviour and psychology, to assist you to understand your dog better.

 How long is each class?

Each class runs for 75–90 minutes, allowing time for Mark to demonstrate training techniques with individual dogs, explain training principles, and answer group questions.

During class, you and your dog will have 15–20 minute training sessions with breaks in between. During breaks, Mark may discuss training topics or provide one-on-one guidance.

What can I expect from the first class?

In the first class, once dogs have settled and everyone is organised, Mark will introduce himself and his assistant Cameron. He will then discuss basic dog behaviour and training methodology while demonstrating initial training techniques with each dog.

This demonstration helps owners understand how to work with their own dog and allows the group to observe and learn. Depending on the dogs, the introduction can take up to an hour. After the demonstration, Mark will guide class members through a short training session on the techniques shown.

The first class is primarily an orientation session, and it is important that everyone attends.

What if I need to leave class early?

You are welcome to leave at any time, but please be aware that you may miss important information.

Do I need to attend all 6 classes?

  • The first class is essential.
  • We recommend attending at least 5 out of 6 classes to gain the full benefit of the program.
  • Missing more than 2 classes may leave you too far behind.
  • There are no refunds for missed classes.
  • In case of a personal emergency, please speak with Mark to discuss alternative arrangements.

What should I bring?

  • Your dog (toileted beforehand; ideally not fed immediately before class — if necessary, feed at least 2 hours prior).
  • High-value soft treats (if food-motivated) and a treat pouch.
  • Walking gear (flat collar & leash, harness, slip lead, or whatever equipment you walk your dog with) in good condition; ensure your dog cannot escape. If wearing a flat collar, ensure it is snug enough not to slip over your dog’s head.
  • Toilet bags – owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs.
  • Water – a shared bucket will be provided, or you may bring your own.
  • Sturdy, non-slip footwear.

Optional Equipment:
Training equipment such as training leads, long lines, and treat pouches will be available for purchase at the class if you require any of these items.

What should I do when I arrive for the first class?

  • Keep your dog at least 3 metres away from other dogs on arrival. Please do not allow dogs to socialise before class. Some dogs may have behavioural issues, and proper socialisation will be taught during class.
  • You will be guided to a designated cone in the training area. Remain there until instructed otherwise.
  • You may sit with your dog, but keep them close.
  • Class will begin once everyone is settled. Mark will wait up to 10 minutes past the scheduled start time; after that, class will commence regardless of attendance.

What if my female dog comes into season?

Dogs in season cannot attend. If this occurs during the 6 weeks, inform Mark, pause your attendance, and resume in the next available course.

Can my dog attend if aggressive towards people or other dogs?

Yes. Please inform Mark at the start of class. If you prefer, your dog may wear a muzzle for the first session.

Can I ask Mark about my dog’s behaviour at home?

Yes. Mark is happy to offer advice, preferably during class breaks or after class.

Why is a deposit required?

Classes are limited to 8–10 dogs. The deposit secures your spot and prevents spaces being held by no-shows. Once 10 deposits are received, registration closes. We recommend booking early to guarantee your place.

Can I get a refund on my deposit?

  • Refunds are available up to 7 days before class starts.
  • Cancellations within 7 days are non-refundable, unless another participant fills your spot.

When do I pay the remainder of the class fee?

At the end of the first class, if you wish to continue:

  • Pay the balance to Cameron (cash, QR, or bank transfer accepted).
  • If you do not continue, no further payment is required, but your deposit is non-refundable.

Health & Vaccinations

  • All dogs must be up to date on vaccinations or have a valid titre test.
  • Do not bring your dog if they are unwell (coughing, vomiting, diarrhoea, or showing signs of illness). Notify Mark via Zalo if your dog is unwell for advice on attendance.

Asking for Help

  • Mark is there to assist you and your dog. No issue is too small — if you are having difficulties, ask Mark for advice or guidance as soon as possible. Try not to wait until the problem becomes more serious before seeking help.

Children at Class
For safety and to help the class run smoothly:

  • Children under 16 years old are not able to take part in the group class.
  • Children 16 or older, if responsible, may participate in training with the dog.
  • Young children who do attend must be supervised at all times by a responsible guardian who is not involved in the dog’s training.
  • Young children must not wander around the training area.

There is plenty of seating for children to watch while supervised.

Weather Policy / Emergency Postponements

  • Classes continue in very light rain (please dress appropriately).
  • In severe weather, postponements or rescheduling will be communicated via the Zalo Group Chat, at least 1 hour before class. Always check Zalo before heading to class.
  • Postponed classes will be added to the schedule to make up for the missed session.

Arrival & Parking

  • Arrive 5–10 minutes early to settle your dog before class.
  • Be mindful of parking and other attendees arriving with dogs.

Training Style & Expectations

  • Training uses a balanced, reward-focused approach.
  • Each dog learns at its own pace; avoid comparisons.
  • Weekly home practice is essential to reinforce class lessons.

Owner Responsibility

  • Handlers are responsible for their dogs at all times.
  • Dogs must remain on-lead unless instructed otherwise.
  • Follow class guidelines and your instructors instructions to maintain a safe environment.

Missed Classes

  • There are no make-up sessions for missed classes unless pre-arranged with Mark.
